Creative academy in Italy
The Creative Academy, situated in Milan, Italy by the Richemont Group, is a specialization school for designers and product developers. The academy's faculty has been selected from among the worlds' leading universities, design and business schools.
A fundamental contribution is made by the CEO's of all major Richemont Group trade-mark companies, including Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Piaget, Jaeger Group, Dunhill Montblanc etc. They are joined by managers from some of the luxury good industry's leading companies. Furthermore, an important contribution is made by some of the most illustrious designers and protagonists in the world of international design, art, culture, luxury, fashion, communication, entrepreneurship and economy, all of whom who testify to their personal and professional experiences and to give students an insider look at what it takes to succeed in their respective industries.
The educational goal is to focus on the integration of design experience with an in-depth knowledge of industrial processes related to products, communication and customers in the industry. Its objective is to channel the creative elements of design through a practical knowledge of artistic craftsmanship while maintains in perspective both brand name and the final customer.
The programme has openings for twenty young professionals of international origin who have successfully completed intenational origin who have successfully completed a substantial course in disciplines related to design.
The cherry on the top is at the end of the programme worthier students are offered a three-month internship at one of the Richemont Groups' trade-mark companies or in an international company active in the same luxury design industries. Internships are assigned on the basis of an evaluation of student's abilities, their interest and their individual capacities demonstrated and developed during their participation in the programme.
South Africa participates
Two final year students from the Tshwane University of Technology were selected by the Creative Academy in Italy to the above programme. The study sponsorship is courtesy of the Richemont Group with Anglo American Platinum Limited (Amplats) contributing to the living expenses for the eleven month programme.
Qualified with a national higher diploma in jewellery design and manufacture. The Tshwane university of technology(previously Pretoria technikon) is a well respected institution in the Arts faculty. They were the recipients of the first platinum studio in South Africa in 2000 and have produced many competent platinum specialists since then.
Talita obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts, (BA Fine Arts) specializing in sculpture from the University of Pretoria before completing a national diploma mentioned above. With a passion for creation of three-dimensional forms and a love for metal, the creation of jewellery became the focus point in my work. Moving the focus from concept rich sculptures to ornaments created for adornment of the body. She draws most of her inspiration out of nature, with a slight African influence. She prefers symmetric geometric designs and the use of colour in jewellery also interest her - not only through the use of stones but also alternative materials including coloured acrylics and organic materials such as leather, shell and wood.
Rene's passion for jewellery stems from an early age of manipulating materials into creative design and observing a family friend that was in the profession. His passion for design is inspired by bright colours and symmetrical shaping.
Both are excited about the use of new technologies in design and the different options of taking an idea to a final rendering and ultimately product.
Both were entrants in the PlatAfrica design competition with Rene van Heerden winning the most unique prize.
The achievement of obtaining this prestigious bursary reflects the level of quality in South African institutions and will be an incentive for other students.
