Finance and Information
One of the most important aspects of business is finance: that is, where does money come from, where does it go and how is it controlled? After all, businesses exist to make money.
The Finance and Information Department is responsible for the control of finance and expenditure and to produce financial information to assist management to make business decisions. Advanced, integrated Computer based systems like SAP assist in this task.
There are several specialisations in Finance and Information and all play an essential role in the running of the business.
Management accounting determines what profit the organisation is making, by reconciling expenditure and income. Plans are then devised to correct over expenditure over the short and long term.
Financial accounting entails the collection of debt, monthly payments to creditors and the bank reconciliation. The figures from all the different finance departments are consolidated here. The monthly financial statements, as well as the year-end reports, are compiled from these figures.
Payroll accounting is responsible for paying the salaries of employees. All payments of remuneration, pension funds, medical aids, company car schemes and much more, are dealt with by this department.
Materials management handles all matters concerning ordering, purchasing, receiving, issuing and distribution of materials and equipment. The material is ordered as it is needed by the different sites. Once it has been purchased, stock is delivered to the stores and issued as required.
Internal audit ensures legal compliance and ethical financial practices. Audits are conducted by the Internal Audit Department. They are designed to help the operating departments identify areas of concern before they turn into problems.
